There are banners hanging in the Bresnan Arena at the Taylor Center that show past All-Americans from both of the Men's and Women's Basketball Teams. On March 29, 2008, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) named Atila Santos to the State Farm All-American Team so it's a good bet that Subway will be asked to donate another "All American" banner in honor of outgoing senior Atila Santos.
That makes the fifth male hoopster named in MSU's history. Atila joins a list of men athletics that includes Hank Epp (1946-47), Pat Coleman (1995-96), Jamel Staten (2004-05) and Luke Anderson (2006-07). The honor makes the third straight year that a Maverick has been named an All-American by the NABC.
The All-American banners were donated by Subway.
The annual spring awards banquet for the men's basketball team was held in the Johnson Alumni Room of the Taylor Center on Sunday, April 20th. See these pictures of the event:
The Annual Meeting of the Hoops Club Board of Directors was held Sunday at 11 AM on April 20th. Kent Thiesse (MinnStar Bank), Jon Kietzer (Community Bank), and Cynthia Hill (Player Parent) were elected to fill vacancies on the 12 member Board of Directors. Immediately following that Annual Meeting, the new Board met and elected its officers for 2008-09. Liz Brown was re-elected to the Club's top spot as President; David Cowan will take another year as Treasurer, Matt Barnes was re-elected as Club Secretary, and the Club's Vice Presidential seat remains unfilled.
