With 22 points in the loss to Concordia-St. Paul Wednesday, senior Luke Anderson became the No. 1 scorer in Minnesota State men's basketball history. Anderson hit a 3-pointer with 1:18 left in the game to give him 1,761 points in his career. He surpassed Brian Koepnick, who played his career from 1986-1990 and finished with 1,759 points. Although the accomplishment is bitter sweet because of the loss, Anderson said he is proud of the achievement because of all the time he has put into basketball over the years.

"I feel like I have been a big part of the development of this program," Anderson said. "It will be nice to look back and know I did something special here."

Anderson is in his sixth year of eligibility, but only played eight games at MSU before his third year. Anderson broke the record in 102 games, 10 less than Koepnick. Anderson started the year third on the all-time list and moved into second place in the Mavericks' second game of the year. He moved past John Schultz, who played from 1957-61 and finished with 1,720 all-time points.

"It will be a hard record to brake," said head coach Matt Margenthaler. "It is a great accomplishment and it didn't get the recognition that it should."

Anderson is also on pace to break other school records. To be No. 1 in MSU history, Anderson needs 83 more field goals, attempt 58 field goals, attempt 13 more three-pointers, 61 free throws made, six more games started and 232 more minutes played. Anderson has already broken the record for 3-pointers made, he needed only five coming into the season.
