The MSU Volleyball team is adding to their recent success with another undefeated tournament. The Mavs went 3-0 at the UMD Classic, improving their record to 10-1 overall. The 3-0 weekend comes after a 3-1 weekend in Kansas City, Mo., and a 4-0 Florida trip to start the season. Minnesota State looks like they have the team ready to go and start a home stand after the first 11 away games.

MSU beat Lake Superior State in a three-game match Thursday, 30-25, 30-24 and 30-17. Amanda Beekman and Ashley Nachreiner had 11 kills each and Stef Sandstrom had 47 assists.

The success carried over to Friday with the Mavs beating No. 15 West Texas A&M 30-28, 15-30, 30-24 and 30-23. Nachreiner added 19 kills and 14 digs, with Beekman chipping in with 15 kills. The Sandstrom sisters totaled 27 digs between the two.

"It feels good to be playing with confidence and character," said head coach Dennis Amundson. "We took care of the ball, chased it hard on defense and didn't commit a lot of hitting errors."

"Ashley and Amanda played really well after 25 points," said Amundson. Lisa (Rohret) and Kelly (Sandstrom) had great passing, and Stef (Sandstrom) is continuing to run a great offense.

"We played as a team, but everything can always use improvement," said Nachreiner. "Our goal is to end up better than we did last year."

MSU then beat Michigan Tech in a three-game match 30-19, 30-20 and 30-23. Freshman outside hitter Kimber Kuhl had an impressive 11 kills in 12 attempts. Beekman added 11 kills and Nachreiner and Kelly Sandstrom combined for 19 digs. Stef Sandstrom had 24 assists and 10 digs.

The Mavericks are now home to play their first two conference games of the year Friday and Saturday. They will play North Dakota Friday at 7 p.m. and Nebraska-Omaha Saturday at 5 p.m. "We can now show our record represents us, and hopefully get some support. We still need to improve and keep getting better though."
