Since her arrival at Minnesota State, senior setter Stef Sandstrom has been a steady presence for the Mavericks. She can be seen setting up her teammates for a kill, diving for a dig or showing some of her overflowing emotion on the floor.

"Stef is a fierce, fierce competitor and showing a little passion is always fine with me," head volleyball coach Dennis Amundson said. "When she first came here we just needed her to channel what she had. She already had all the tools. We are always challenging her to get to that next step and Stef has always met those challenges."

"You always take pride in anything you do, being a Maverick or just being on the volleyball team," said Sandstrom. "I just consider it a privilege to play with these girls and my coach as long as I have."

The Andover, Minn. native is helping lead the Mavericks volleyball team to a 14-3 record and their best start since 1993. She's also leading the team with 690 assists, is second on the team in serving aces with 23 and is third in digs with 186.

"I really think we have more skill and are more well-rounded than anyone," said Sandstrom. "Ami (Amundson) is just stressing to us to compete and have fun. Every game is getting bigger and we're just enjoying ourselves out there."
