Kory Theil joins the Minnesota State Wrestling coaching staff after serving as an assistant coach at Ellsworth Community College and Iowa Western Community College.
During his one-year stint at Ellsworth Community College, the Panthers placed eighth in the NJCAA and third in the NWCA National Duals as a team. Individually, three Ellsworth athletes earned All-American honors, including a third-place finish at nationals by current Maverick wrestler, Da'Wayne Robertson. Theil was an integral part of assembling the 14th rated non-Division I recruiting class for the Panthers. At Ellsworth, Theil also served as Assistant Housing Director and Student Senate Sponsor.
Prior to Ellsworth, Theil spent two years assisting with the start-up of the wrestling program at Iowa Western Community College. There he assisted the Reivers to 23rd and 18th-place finishes in the nation and a runner-up finish in the 2013 Midwest District and also assisting in the production of the first two All-Americans in program history. Iowa Western assembled the second- ranked Non-Division I recruiting class in the nation prior to the 2013 season.
The Cary, Ill., native competed collegiately for Lakeland College (Wis.) where he finished with an overall record of 80-35 and ranks in the top-10 in all statistical categories. Theil won a NWA conference title in 2007, won two MSOE Invitational titles, and placed in the Great Lakes Regional three times. He graduated with a degree in Spanish and is pursuing a Master's degree in education.
Theil serves in a full-time capacity within the Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Residential Life as the Hall Director for McElroy E/F.
