What Lies Ahead: The Minnesota State women's tennis team, ranked #4 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association regional poll and #6 in the NCAA Central Regional Poll travels to the 2009 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Individual Tournament this weekend. The competition will be played at the Baseline Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
What Just Happened: The Mavericks finished second at last week's NSIC Team tournament held in St. Paul, Minn. The Mavericks, who were the #3 seed in the event opened with a 5-4 victory over #6 seed Minnesota Duluth and then downed #7 Southwest Minnesota State, 5-2.
The Mavericks then fell to St. Cloud State, the #1 seed, 5-1, in Sunday's championship.
Rankings: In the last ITA rankings, Minnesota State senior #1 singles player Marina Bugaenco was ranked #1 in the central region and #44 in the nation. Bugaenco was the only player from the Northern Sun ranked in the top-50 in the nation.
Bugaenco and doubles partner Sarah Madigan were ranked #5 in the region in doubles action. All polls were as of March 31.
