Mavericks Host Badgers in WCHA Series This Weekend

Minnesota State Looks to Get Back on Track in Games vs. University of Wisconsin


On Tap:    Minnesota State (2-2-0 overall, 0-2-0 WCHA) continues WCHA action this week with a pair of games with the University of Wisconsin (0-1-0 overall, 0-1-0 WCHA) this weekend.  The Mavericks and the Badgers play in downtown Mankato at the Verizon Wireless Center (4,832) Friday (7:37 p.m.) and Saturday (7:07 p.m.).

About the MSU-UW Series:    The Mavericks went 1-2-1 in games with the Badgers last year and trail in the all-time series with Wisconsin by a 17-13-4 margin. MSU stands 9-4-3 all-time vs. Wisconsin in games played in Mankato.
    MSU’s leading active scorers vs. UW are senior forwards Geoff Irwin (4-3--7 in 10 GP) and Kael Mouillierat (5-2--7 in 10 GP).   Head coach Troy Jutting’s career head coaching record vs. UW stands at 11-15-4 (.433).

Most Recently:   Minnesota State is 2-2-0, 0-2-0 WCHA for 2009-10 after absorbing a pair of road Western Collegiate Hockey Association losses at Minnesota-Duluth last Friday and Saturday. MSU dropped 5-2 and 3-2 decisions to the Bulldogs in games played at the DECC.

Radio Broadcasts:  All MSU men’s hockey games are carried live, both home and away, on KTOE • AM 1420 with award-winning veteran sports broadcaster Mike Sullivan handling the play-by-play duties. 

Television Broadcasts: 
  This week’s MSU men’s hockey home games will be  carried live on local cable on channel 14 by Charter Media.  Don Westphal calls the play-by-play and former MSU goaltender Steve Carroll provides color commentary.

About the Mavericks:
  Minnesota State stands 2-2-0 on the year and is 0-2-0 in league games after the series at Minnesota-Duluth last weekend.  Junior Rylan Galiardi (2-2--4) leads the Mavericks in scoring and a pair of newcomers to the roster in sophomore Austin Lee and freshman Kevin Murdock have split the MSU goaltending duties to date.  The Mavericks, who are closing in on 700 wins as a program, square-off against Wisconsin in the first WCHA games to be played in Verizon Wireless Center this year.
