Minnesota State Inks Four Players for 2010-11 Season

Mankato, Minn.   –   Minnesota State head coach Pam Gohl has announced the signing of Alli Hoefer, Hillary Paulson, Lizzie Stenhaug, and Jordyn Krekling to National Letters of Intent to play for MSU beginning in the 2010-11 season.

A 5-7 point guard from Plymouth, Minn., Hoefer averaged 13 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists her junior season at Robbinsdale-Armstrong High School. Hoefer’s individual accolades include being named to Classic Lake All-Conference Team sophomore and junior years, as well as being selected to Channel 12 All-Metro Team as a junior. She also played four years of varsity soccer earning, Classic Lake All-Conference Honorable Mention and First Team All-Conference. Hoefer is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and Environmental Society.

“Alli is a dynamic point guard with explosive speed offensively,” said Gohl, “She’s also one of the best on-ball defenders we have seen. Her speed and quickness will be invaluable as she helps us play our up-tempo type of game.” 

A 6-0 guard from Freeman, S.D., Paulson averaged 16.9 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.6 blocks, and 2.5 steals her junior season at Freeman High School. Paulson was named First Team All-Conference sophomore and junior years, named Third Team All-State as a junior, and made a state tournament appearance junior year. She currently sits in the top three in school history for points, rebounds, asssts, steals and blocks. A five-year letter winner in both basketball and volleyball. Paulson is active in church youth group as well as a 4-H member and band member.

“Hillary is a very atheltic wing player, she beats people down the floor and can finish on the drive or with a three-pointer,” said Gohl.

A 5-8 point guard from Rochester, Minn., Stenhaug averaged 9.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.4 steals her junior season at Rochester Century High School. She was named team captain as a senior. Stenhaug also played soccer and was the third leading scorer in the state Class AA soccer tournament. Stenhaug was named All-Conference  in both basketball and soccer. She played with the Minnesota Fury AAU Basketball club in 2009 and was named Big Nine Scholar Athlete for fall 2009. Stenhaug is a member of the National Honor Society.

“Lizzie sees the floor extremely well and makes great decision in transition, her defense tenacity will be critical for us,” said Gohl, “She has the best between-the-legs cross-over we have seen in quite awhile.”

A 5-10 guard from Hayfield, Minn., Krekling averaged 13.4 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals her junior season at Hayfield High School. She was named Hiawatha Valley League All-Conference and Austin Daily Herald All-Area Team member her sophomore and junior years. Her team finished fourth at the 2008 Class AA State Tournament and was named team MVP as a junior. Krekling currently has 868 career points and 389 career rebounds. She was also named Hiawatha Valley League Conference Honorable Mention  in volleyball her sophomore and junior year. She is a member of the National Honor Society.

“Jordyn is a shooting guard with NBA three-point range and she has great anticipation on the defensive end,” said Gohl.

All signings are contingent upon admission to MSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Clearinghouse

Minnesota State begins its 2009-10 season Tuesday, as it hosts Dana College, at 7 p.m. in Taylor Center.
