Stevens Point, Wis. - The Minnesota State men’s swimming and diving team sits in fourth-place with 173 points after the opening day of the 2009 Border Battle hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
MSU tallied five top-10 finishes on the day, including a seventh and 10th-place finish by the 200-yard freestyle relay squad.
The seventh-place squad, which was composed of freshman Tom Gasnick, senior Brian Parks, sophomore Matt Chidaand freshman Brody Heggerston finished with a time of 1:30.28. The 10th-place team finished with a time of 1:31.48. That relay team was made up of sophomore Dan Wright, senior Jose Rosales, freshman Keaton Brown and sophomore Jacob Longacre.
In the 400-yard medley relay, the relay team of freshman Kyle Hellyer, Parks, Chida and Gasnick finished third with a time of 3:36.97. The Mavericks were also 10th with a time of 3:47.90. That relay team was made up of Brown, junior Chris Gogel, Wright and Heggerston.
Individually, Gasnick was fifth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:56.15.
The two-day long event concludes Saturday.
