Stevens Point, Wis. - The Minnesota State women’s swimming and diving team sits in third-place with 213 points after the opening day of the 2009 Border Battle hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Minnesota State finished with six top-five finishes on the day.
The Mavericks finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay, turning in a time of 1:39.72, touching :00.05 seconds out of first-place. The relay squad was made up of junior Kim Christensen, junior Katie Kruse, junior Chelsea Chapman and sophomore Kaitlin Ogden. In the 400-yard medley relay, Christensen, junior Claire Bergman, sophomore Emily Timm, and junior Kristin Hayes finished second with a time of 4:05.87.
In the 500-yard freestyle, freshman Marissa Reeve finished fifth with a time of 5:19.13, while Christensen was second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :25.11. Freshman Tabetha Temperley was fifth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:16.57.
In the one-meter dive, junior Janel Duffy was fourth with a score of 325.50.
The two-day long event concludes Saturday.
