Mankato, Minn. —  Minnesota State softball coach Lori Meyer has announced the signings of Lindsay Erickson (Big Lake, Minn.) and Kristen Fah (Becker, Minn.) national letters of intent to join the Maverick softball team in the fall of 2010.  The duo joins Kelly Wood and Brittany Lauterbach as preps who have signed national letters of intent to join MSU.

All signings are contingent upon admission to MSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Clearinghouse.

Erickson – a catcher and corner infielder – was named the Mississippi 8 Offensive Player of the Year award in 2008 when she batted .519 while slugging .852.  For her career at Big Lake High School she has played in 108 games and as a career batting average of .406, while scoring 77 runs and driving in 83 runs.  She was a first-team all-state selection in 2008 and a second-team all-state selection in 2007.  Erickson will join her sister, Chelsea, who is a sophomore on the Maverick squad this year.

"Lindsay is a great athlete who is a student of the game and loves to compete," said Meyer.  "She is a powerful left-handed hitter that drives the ball. On defense she offers us versatility as a catcher and corner player and possesses the aggressiveness that you want from a catcher or corner player."

Fah – who is a pitcher – threw 183 innings last season, striking out 296 batters while allowing just 31 walks and 72 hits.  A year ago, she posted a 22-5 record while boasting a 0.46 earned run average.  At the plate, she batted .434 with 43 hits, driving in 30 runs and blasting 11 doubles and six home runs.  For her career, Fah owns a 61-12 record on the mound with a 0.67 earned run average and 754 strikeouts in 525 innings pitched.  At the plate, she is a career .343 hitter with seven home runs, 25 doubles and 59 runs batted in.

"Kristen is a very good athlete who has great potential to excel at the college level," said Meyer. "She brings versatility to our program as a player who can hit, pitch and play first base.  Kristen is a well rounded pitcher with good speed and movement.  She has been very successful at the high school level in leading Becker High School to the State tournament the last two years.  During her travel ball career with the MN Irish Gold she has had the opportunity to compete at a highest level and play and pitch against some of the best teams and hitters in the county."

Minnesota State finished the 2009 season with a 39-17 record.
