Mankato, Minn. — Minnesota State men's basketball coach
Matt Margenthaler has announced that St. Cloud, Minn., native Alex Hanks has inked a National Letter of Intent to join the Maverick basketball team in the fall of 2010.
All signings are contingent upon admission to MSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
Hanks – a 6-2 shooting guard who is in his senior season with St. Cloud Tech –averaged 11.6 points per game last season while shooting 46.6 percent from the floor. He also passed out 64 assists, gathered 38 steals and averaged 4.3 rebounds per game last year. Last year he helped guide the Tigers to a third-place finish in the Minnesota Class AAAA tournament.
"Alex has a tremendous upside," said Margenthaler. "When he starts playing only basketball, we will all see the outstanding talent he possesses. He brings a work ethic and toughness that we like to see in our program. We are very excited to have Alex and his family join our Maverick family."
The Mavericks (1-0) host Maryville Friday at 8 p.m., to open the 2009 Pepsi Tip-Off.
