Maxson Named to Academic All-America Team

Mankato, Minn. --- The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America women's soccer teams were announced with Minnesota State senior defender Abby Maxson earning a spot on the second team.

To be eligible for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America teams, student-athletes must maintain a 3.20 grade point average. The teams are voted on upon the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Maxson, a Maple Grove, Minn. native, owns an impressive 4.0 grade point average in sport management. Maxson has recorded three goals, one assist, accumulating seven  points on the season. Maxson tallied her first career goal, September 26, against Concordia University. Throughout her career she has played in 65 matches earning three goals, three assists, accumulating nine points. Maxson was named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V First Team member. In 2008, she was named NSIC All-Academic Soccer Team member.

Maxson becomes the 33rd Maverick to make the all-time list of Academic All-America team members. She also becomes the second soccer player to make the list. Former MSU goalkeeper Alison Vroman made the list in 2002 and 2003.
