MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS

Mankato, Minn. —  Minnesota State women's swimming and diving coach Nate Owens has announced that Mason City, Iowa, native Courtney Busch has inked a National Letter of Intent to join the Maverick swimming and diving team in the fall of 2010.

Busch – who's sister Rachel is a senior captain for the Maverick swimming and diving team – competes in the freestyle, backstroke and individual medley.  She is a four-year letterwinner for Mason City High School, a four-time state qualifier and was named first-team All-State seven times and was a second-team all-state selection five times.

Courtney was a state champion in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay this fall and earned runner-up honors in the 100-yard freestyle.  She also helped guide Mason City to a team title this fall.    Busch won the 100-yard backstroke in 2007 and was a runner -up in the event in 2008 and finished sixth in the race in 2006.  She also finished runner-up in th 200-yard medley relay in 2008.

"We're very excited about signing Courtney," said head coach Nate Owens. 
"Her swimming resume is impressive and she has the potential to be an elite swimmer at the Division II level.  Courtney is a versatile swimmer that has the ability to swim a variety of events and relays which will help our team tremendously.  With her squad winning a state championship this fall, we know that she is a highly motivated and very competitive athlete.  Courtney will make a positive impact on our team immediately.  I'm thrilled that she has decided to become a Maverick. "

All signings are contingent upon admission to MSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
