Mankato, Minn. — Minnesota State senior return specialist/defensive back
Kelvin Rodgers, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference's Special Team's Player of the Week following his performance in MSU's 48-17 victory over Upper Iowa last Saturday.
The East St. Louis, Ill., native returned one kick for 78 yards and a touchdown against Upper Iowa last weekend, springboarding Minnesota State into a 30-point second quarter. The return marked the fourth career kick return for a touchdown by Rodgers and marked the ninth time that he has taken a return (kick, punt, interception or fumble) into the endzone. He also returned four punts for 64 yards, averaging 16 yards a return and finished the game with 169 all-purpose yards. Defensively, he finished the game with three tackles, an interception (which he returned 27 yards) and a pass break-up.
Minnesota State (10-0, 9-0 NSIC) closes the regular season portion of its schedule Saturday at St. Cloud State. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
