Brookings, S.D. – The Minnesota State women’s basketball team travelled to Brookings, S.D, to face the South Dakota Jackrabbits in 2009 exhibition game.
Senior guard Tiffany Moe (Brookings, S.D.) opened up the game with the first five points, off a two-point field goal and three-point field goal. The Mavericks and Jackrabbits, a member of NCAA Division and a former North Central Conference opponent, exchanged baskets until midway through the first half until the Jackrabbits gained a seven point lead. MSU finished the first half with an eight-point deficit, 26-34.
Moe led the Mavericks in scoring with 15 points including 3-4 from the three-point line and 4-4 from the free-throw line. Sophomore guard Jennie Noreen (Avon, Minn.) contributed in the first half scoring with seven points, capitalizing on three of five from the field-goal range. Senior forward Liz Trauger (Livermore, Iowa) posted a team best six rebounds.
Entering the second half, the Mavericks continued to battle from behind, cutting down the Jackrabbits lead to two points. The Jackrabbits scoring attack overwhelmed the Mavericks as SDSU pulled away, in claiming the 71-57 victory.
Moe and Noreen continued to lead the Mavericks in scoring in the second half. Moe finished the game accumulating 21 points with a field-goal percentage of .483, leading with four steals. Noreen finished with 14 points, shooting .600 from the field. Trauger ended the game leading the team with eight rebounds and 11 points, tallying three assists. Sophomore center Laura Weber (Eden Prairie, Minn.) helped clean up the boards tallying seven rebounds.
Minnesota State opens non-conference play as they host Dana College, Nov. 17, at 7:00 p.m., at Taylor Center.
