Mavericks Are Sixth After Second-Day Action at Big Red Invitational

      Lincoln, Neb. — The Minnesota State women’s bowling team posted a 3-2 record Friday at the Big Red Invitational in the three-day long event which is being hosted by the University of Nebraska.

The 12-rated Mavericks opened today’s action with a 818-801 win over Prairie View A&M with junior Sarah Izydorek’s 170 leading the way.

Seventh-rated Arkansas State downed MSU by a 918-915 score in the second match of the day with sophomore Kelsey Dunkle’s 228 pacing MSU.

#20 Valparaiso turned back MSU by an 822 to 787 margin in the third match before the Mavericks responded with a 857-790 victory over #17 Elmhurst with senior Ashley Clinchoc rolling a team-best 194.

In MSU’s final match of the day the Mavericks earned a 1,044-994 win over fourth-rated Central Missouri with senior Lisa Hoover’s 248 leading the way. Hoover threw strikes in every frame except the sixth and on her second ball in the 10th. Porter marked in all 10 frames, while Dunkle and Clinchoc each finished with eight marks to close out the game.

Overall, MSU currently stands sixth with 7,317 total pins, with Central Missouri leading the tournament with 7,869 pins.    The Mavericks are now 11-10 for 2009-10 and conclude action in Lincoln Saturday.
