Mavericks Drop NSIC Seminfinal Match to Warriors

            Winona, Minn.The Minnesota State Mavericks lost a tough battle to the Winona State Warriors, (2-1) in semifinal action of the 2009 NSIC tournament in Winona, Minn. Friday afternoon.

 

The Mavericks came out strong in the first period posting nine shots with four on goal. MSU held the Warriors to four shots in the first period. Posting shots on goal in the first period for the Mavericks were; freshman midfielder Cassie Weik (Oakdale, Minn.), freshman forward Brittany Henry (Stillwater, Minn.), senior midfielder Tayler Vestal (Des Moines, Iowa), and senior midfielder Natalie Bullis (Madison, Wis.).

 

In the second period MSU started off giving up two Warrior goals. Battling back, off an assist from junior forward Laura Leber (Council Bluffs, Iowa), junior forward Ann Kincaid (Bettendorf, Iowa) scored the first goal for the Mavericks at 63:16, to hold the deficit to one goal. The goal marks Kincaid’s sixth of the season and third assist for Leber. The Mavericks posted 12 shots with eight on goal in the second period. Leber posted two shots on goal along with Kincaid and senior midfielder Lauren Butters (Scottsdale, Ariz.).

 

Senior goalkeeper Sheila Reynolds (St. Charles, Ill.) tallied five saves in the match, four in the first period and one in the second. Reynolds is now 13-4-2 on the season.

 

Minnesota State now (13-4-2) on the season awaits their fate in NCAA tournament play as tournament schedule will be released Monday.
