Mavericks Finish Fifth at 2009 Big Red Invitational
Minnesota State Totals 11,799 Pins in Three-Day Event
Lincoln, Neb. — The Minnesota State women’s bowling team posted a 3-2 record Saturday and concluded the Big Red Invitational with a 11,799 pin total in finishing fifth at the eight-team event.
MSU dropped its first two matches of the day before closing with three straight victories.
#1-ranked Nebraska handed MSU a 917-833 loss in the first match. Senior Ashley Clinchoc, who closed with four consecutive strikes vs. the Cornhuskers, led the Mavericks with a 201.
Second-rated Vanderbilt outdistanced the Mavericks in the second match by a 941-907 margin. MSU freshman Hali Clark had no open frames in rolling a team-high 199 vs. the Commodores.
Led by senior Lisa Hoover’s 199, the 12th-ranked Mavericks earned an 848-846 win over Prairie View A&M 846. And Hoover’s 223 paced MSU to a 985-911 triumph over #7 Arkansas State.
Then, in the last event of the day, MSU downed #20 Valparaiso 909-852 with Clinchoc’s 223 leading the way. Clinchoc had only one open frame and ended with five strikes in the final five frames.
Now 15-13 on the year, the Mavericks are in Valparaiso, Ind., next Friday & Saturday to take part in the Crusader Classic.
