Mavericks 2009 Season One To Remember

What Happened:  The Minnesota State football team finished the 2009 season with a 10-2 record, including a 9-1 mark in the NSIC and a 2009 NSIC South Division championship.  The Mavericks hosted their first playoff game in program history, that being a 27-24 overtime loss to Hillsdale.

A Little History Lesson: The 2009 season marked the school's 83rd season playing football.  The Mavericks are 371-378-27 (.497) in 773 games since their inception as a varsity sport in 1922.  Minnesota State is in its second season in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and owns a 18-2 record in league action.  Over the course of its history, MSU has claimed 17 conference championships including 15 NIC titles.

One for the Books:  The Mavericks etched their name into several team categories last season.  Minnesota State finished fourth in team rushing yards (2,601), second in rushing touchdowns (34), third in average yards per rush (4.93), 10th in rushing yards per game (216.8), fourth in passing/receiving touchdowns (23), fifth in passing efficiency (133.1), sixth in average yards per pass (7.6), fifth in average yards per completion/reception (15.3), third in total offense (4,770), second in touchdowns responsible for (84), fourth in total offense per game (397.5), first in total offense per play (5.87), second in all purpose yards (6,325), fourth in all purpose yards per game (527.1), second in total points scored (458), second in touchdowns scored (61), second in PAT kicks made (51), second in PAT kicks attempted (55), fourth in field goals made (11), 10th in field goals attempted (14), 10th in field goal percentage (.786), ninth in punt returns (26), second in average yards per punt return (14.04), first in interceptions (29), firs tin interception return yards (354) and fifth in unassisted tackles (433).
