Mavericks Fall to #11 in Division II Poll, Wilson Still Tops at Heavyweight

12/18/2009 3:29:50 PM

Edmond, Okla.Minnesota State dropped two spots to #11 in the latest edition of the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association poll.  Minnesota State is one of four Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams ranked in the top-20, trailing #6 Augustana and #9 St. Cloud State, while edging Upper Iowa who sits at #12.

Individually, senior three-time All-American Brady Wilson (Faribault, Minn.) maintained his grip on top billing at heavyweight.  Wilson went 4-0 with three falls last weekend to claim the title at the Husky Open in St. Cloud, Minn.  That performance earned him NSIC Wrestler of the Week honors.

Three other Mavericks also garnered recognition in their respective weight classes.  Returning All-American Andy Forstner (Madelia, Minn.) held on to the #4 ranking at 125 pounds for the second straight poll.  Returning national qualifiers Pat Mahan (Owatonna, Minn.) and Ben Becker (Fort Dodge, Iowa) round out the Maverick showing, ranking fifth and eighth at 197 and 174 pounds respectively.
