Beekman, Stamer Earn Honorable Mention in AVCA All-America

   Lexington, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) anounced the 2009 Division II All-America Teams this afternoon. Minnesota State junior outside hitter Amanda Beekman (Marshall, Minn.) and sophomore setter Brittany Stamer (Hutchinson, Minn.) were named AVCA 2009 Division II All-America honorable mention. Beekman and Stamer mark the second and third Mavericks to be honored as AVCA All-America Honorable Mention. The only other player in program history to be named honorable mention was Nichole Rose in 2003.

Beekman finished her junior season with 394 kills (3.40 kills per set), which is second on the team, 12 assists, 28 service aces, 145 digs and 60 total blocks. Beekman earned NSIC Offensive Player of the Week honors, Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week honors and joined the Maverick 1,000 Kill Club this season.

Stamer finished the 2009 season with 1,442 assists, which is 12.02 per set, 59 kills and 34 service aces. Her 1,442 assists was a new program record, passing former Maverick Jen Blendermann. Stamer currently owns 2,197 career assists after her second year of action. She was named NSIC Setter of the Week twice this season, Sept. 8 and Sept. 28.

Minnesota State finished the 2009 season with a 26-7 overall record, 16-4 in the NSIC.
