Houston, Texas - The Minnesota State men’s swimming and diving team finished 12th with 124.5 points at the 2009 NCAA Division II Championships. The event, which is held at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston, is part of the NCAA Division II Winter Sports Festival.
Drury won the team event with 543 points.
Senior Marty Wahle finished second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:45.38, which was :00.49 seconds behind Sean Smith’s national-championship time. Wahle won the prelims of the event with a time of 1:45.68.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Mavericks finished 12th ,
with a time of 3:02.96. Earning All-American honors in the race was junior Ben Dowswell, senior Zac Ruzycki, sophomore Chris Gogel and Wahle. The quartet same to a 13th place finish in the prelims with a time of 3:03.61
Other Mavericks competing individually for MSU included: junior Ben Dowswell (22nd, 100-yard freestyle, :45.30), senior Scott Kent (23rd, 200-yard breaststroke, 2:06.63) and senior Zac Ruzycki (21st, 200-yard backstroke, 1:52.99).
