Houston, Texas - The Minnesota State women’s swimming and diving team sits in 11th-place with 69 points after the second day of the 2009 NCAA Division II Championships. The event, which is held at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston, is part of the NCAA Division II Winter Sports Festival.
Drury leads the field with 285.5 points.
MSU had two relay teams earn All-American honors Thursday. The 200-yard freestyle team finished seventh with a time of 1:34.88. The team, which was made up of sophomore Kim Christensen, freshman Katie Young, sophomore Chelsea Chapman and senior Ashley Baer, finished seventh in the prelims with a time of 1:34.83.
In the 400-yard medley relay, them Maverick’s touched in 3:50.77, good for 11th-place. That relay team, which was comprised of junior Angela Krych, senior Jenna Smith, freshman Emily Timm and Baer, finished 13th in the prelims with a time of 3:52.08.
Individually, four Mavericks swam but did not earn a trip to the finals. Baer finished 18th in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:32.94, while sophomore Kristen Hayes was 34th in the 200-yard freestyle, touching in 1:55.46.
Timm finished 38th in the 100-yard fly, with a time of :58.34, while Smith was 43rd in the same race, touching in :58.48. On the diving board, sophomore Janel Duffy finished 12th, in the one-meter dive with a score of 336.05.
The four-day long event continues Thursday.
