Minnesota State’s Glynn Selected By Tampa Bay in 2009 MLB Draft
Waseca Native Goes to Rays in 43rd Round, 1,309th Overall and Joins Odegaard as Mavericks Picked This Year

Mankato, Minn. — Senior third baseman Geno Glynn (Waseca, Minn.) has been selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 43rd round (1,309th overall) in the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

An All-NSIC Second Team selection this year, Glynn hit .376 with eight home runs and a team-high 58 runs batted in. His 58 RBI rank second on MSU’s all-time single-season list. Named to the 2009 NSIC All-Tournament Team, Glynn hit .545 (12-for-22) with nine runs scored, two home runs and 10 RBI in five games at this year’s tourney and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. For his two-year MSU career, Glynn hit .347 with 10 homers and 82 RBI.

Glynn joins junior righthanded pitcher Chris Odegaard as Minnesota State players who have been selected in this year’s draft. Odegaard was picked yesterday in the 23rd round (696th overall) by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Glynn and Odegaard’s selections bring the total number of MSU players selected in the history of the MLB draft to 30 (see accompanying list).

A pair of MSU senior righthanded pitchers have also signed free agent deals with independent professional teams. Nathan Kafka (Denmark, Wis.) signed with the Midwest Sliders of the Frontier League and Jim Dale (Nunda, N.Y.) has inked a contract and is playing with the Texarkana Gunslingers of the Continental Baseball League.
