Minnesota State’s Odegaard Selected By Diamondbacks in 2009 MLB Draft
Glencoe Native Goes to Arizona in 23rd Round, 696th Overall


Mankato, Minn. — Junior righthanded pitcher Chris Odegaard has been selected in the 23rd round (696th overall) by theArizona Diamondbacks in the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

This marks the second year in a row that Odegaard has been selected exactly in this position with the Minnesota Twins picking the Glencoe, Minn., native in the 23rd round (696th overall) in the 2008 draft.

Odegaard went 4-5 this year with a 5.98 earned run average. Named NSIC Player of the Week after MSU’s 6-1 season-opening win at Southwest Baptist, Feb. 20th., Odegaard led the Mavericks with 73 strikeouts in 58.2 innings pitched. A team captain in 2009, he tied for the team lead with 13 starts. An All-Region and All-North Central Conference performer as a sophomore in 2009, Odegaard stands 13-8 and owns a 4.23 ERA in 159.2 innings for his three-year MSU career. He has 192 strike outs to rank seventh on MSU’s career list.

Odegaard’s selection today marks the 29th time that a MSU player has been selected in the MLB draft (see accompanying list).
This year’s draft concludes tomorrow with rounds 31-50.
