Klein Selected as Men’s Golf Coach; Drahota Named Women’s Bowling Skipper

Mankato, Minn. — Minnesota State has announced that Geoff Klein has been selected to guide the Maverick men’s golf program.

Klein, who is a financial advisor for Coulter, Schmidt & Klein in Mankato, is a 2002 Minnesota State graduate. A four-year letterwinner on the Maverick men’s golf team from 1998-2002, Klein was a member of MSU’s North Central Conference championship team in 2000. A three-time Mankato Golf Club champion, Klein competed in the 2007 United States Mid-Amateur at Brandon Dunes and the 1996 and 2001 Minnesota State Amateur golf tournament. Klein replaces Mike Zinni, who led the MSU men’s golf team for the past six years.

It has also been announced that Shane Drahota has been named women’s bowling coach. Named MSU’s Compliance Director and Student Services in 2007, Drahota spent a year and half as the Assistant Director of Athletics at the University of South Dakota prior to returning to Mankato. Drahota, who is a Jackson, Minn., native and a 1999 MSU graduate, spent eight years as a member of MSU athletic communications office prior to joining USD. Drahota replaces Chad Oachs, who led the Maverick women’s bowling program for the past three years (2006 through 2009).
