Mavericks Earn 11 First-Place Finishes at MSU Alumni Open

Mankato, Minn. -  The Minnesota State women’s indoor track and field squad continued its 2009-10 campaign Saturday as it hosted the annual MSU Alumni Open.

The Mavericks fared well in the event, earning 11 first-place finishes and 32 top-five finishes.

In the field events, Amelia Schaller won both the shot and weight throws with tosses of 48’9 ½” and 40’9” respectively. 

Minnesota State fared well in the sprints as well as Becca Schmidt won the 60-meter dash in :07.80, while Megan Olson won the 60-meter hurdles in :09.35.  In the distance races, Katherine Anundson won the mile with a time of 5:46.53, while Melissa Clark won the 800-meter run in 2:27.46.  Natalie Lyster won the 600-meter run in 1:40.66, while Amanda Dettman won the 1,000-meter run in 3:14.24.  Ali Paul won the 3,000-meter run in 11:02.98)

Other Mavericks earning top-five finishes include: Brita Johnson (second, weight-throw, 45’05 ¾”), Samantha Berge (third, weight-throw, 42’08 ¾”; third, shot put, 37’07 ¼”), Hannah Turnbull (second, shot put, 38’04”), Christina Erickson (fourth, long jump, 17’2 ¼”; second, triple jump, 34’11 ¼”), Andrea Sellers (fifth, long jump, 17’2 ¼”; fourth, 60-meter hurdles, :09.59), Lauren Stelten (second, pole vault, 11’9 ¾”), Whitney Kroschel (third, pole vault, 11’9 ¾”), Lisa Stocker (fifth, pole vault, 10’10”) Moriah Miller (third, high jump, 5’0”), Danielle Jones (third, 60-meters, :08.05), Yanique Black (fourth, 60-meters, :08.09), Abby Anundson (second, mile, 6;02.84), Hannah Sieve (fifth, mile, 6:25.72), Kelsey Leonard (second, 200-meters, :26.28), Schmidt (third, 200-meters, :26.32), Michelle Farley (fifth, 400-meters, 1:02.50), Jennifer Duley (second, 11:44.92), Lauren Beaukelman (second, 600-meter run, 1:42.45)

In the relays, MSU won the distance medley relay in 13:11.24, while finishing second in the 4x400-meter relay (4:13.03) and third in the same race (4:15.94).

Minnesota State travels to the University of Minnesota next weekend.
