Omaha, Neb. – Tel Todd, Aaron Norgren, and Brendan Eichmann each finished in fifth place in their respective weight classes at the Kaufman-Brand Open at the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday. The tournament showcased over 700 wrestlers from 35 teams across 12 different states.
Norgren earned a fifth place finish in the 184- lb weight class as he finished the day with a 3-2 record. Norgren won his first two matches by decision as he defeated Ryan Woods (UWP) 6-5 before moving on against Vinnie Wagner (IA) by a 5-1 decision. After losing two consecutive matches by decision, Norgren defeated Clarence Neely (Mizz) as he recorded a pin at the 6:40 mark to wrap-up the fifth place finish.
Todd would earn a fifth place finish in the 157- lb weight class as he finished the tournament with a 5-2 record. Todd won his first match by a 10-3 decision over Joe Garner (NDSU) before pinning Nick Howell (HC) at the 4:57 mark. Todd would then lose a 2-0 decision to George Ivanov (UNO) before earning two wins by decision which put him in a position to potentially compete for third place. However, Todd would lose a 6-4 decision to Stephen Swan (OSU) placing him in the fifth place match where he would earn a forfeit-win against Ivanov.
Eichmann began the tournament with three consecutive wins in the 165- lb class in the amateur bracket. However, Eichmann would lose two straight decisions which placed him in a battle for fifth place against Dan McGillivray (ILCC). Eichmann would prevail as he earned a hard fought 5-4 win by decision as he finished the tournament with a fifth place finish and a 4-2 record.
The Mavericks will now have a break from competition as they don’t return to action until December 4th. Here they will travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to compete in the UNI Open.
