Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State freshman forward
Chase Grant has been named
WCHA Rookie of the Week for Nov. 30, 2010 as a result of his outstanding efforts in a two-game road sweep at UMass-Lowell last weekend.
A 5-11, 195-pound left winger from Oklahoma City, Okla., Grant totalled four points on a goal and three assists as Minnesota State posted 8-3 and 3-2 victories over the host River Hawks on Nov. 26-27.
Grant assisted on a pair of goals by
Rylan Galiardi and was +2 in the game one win last Friday. Then on Saturday, he drew an assist on a goal by
Zach Lehrke in the second period before scoring an unassisted game-winning goal at 5:48 of the third period as the Mavericks completed the sweep. Named the game’s No. 1 star, he also had four shots on goal and was +1.
The two wins at UMass-Lowell marked MSU’s first non-conference road sweep since downing Bemidji State twice on Dec. 11-12, 2009. Grant, who leads the Mavericks with a +5 on the year, is tied for second on MSU’s scoring charts with nine points (4g, 5a) in 12 games.
Now 4-6-4 overall, the Mavericks host #17 Minnesota Friday and Saturday in a pair of league contests.
