Ogden Swam the Second Leg of the 200-Yard Freestyle Team Which Reached the "A" Standard

Omaha, Neb. --- The Minnesota State women’s swimming and diving team sits in second-place with 397 points after the second day of the 2010 Midwest Conference Swimming Championships held in Omaha, Neb.


St. Cloud State leads the six-team event with 436 points.


The Mavericks opened the day with a strong showing in the prelim races as one “A” standard and four “B” standards were met for next months NCAA Division II Championships.  In the finals, the Mavericks had two more swimmers reach “B” qualifications.


The 200-yard freestyle relay finished first in the prelims with a time of 1:36.07, which hit the “A” standard. The relay team, which is made up of junior Kim Christensen, sophomore Kaitlin Ogden, junior Chelsea Chapman and senior Angela Krych finished third in the finals with a time of 1:36.58.


Junior Kristin Hayes and freshman Marissa Reeve each hit the “B” standard in the prelims of the 500-yard freestyle with times of 5:10.8 and 5:11.23. Hayes’ time was the fastest in the prelims, while Reeve finished third. 


In the finals of the 500-yard freestyle, Reeve turned in a second-place finish with a time of 5:09.27, which was also a “B” standard, while senior Ana Arnold finished third in 5:10.95, which reached the “B” mark.  Hayes was sixth in the finals with a time of 5:14.00, while sophomore Stefanie Edwards finished ninth in 5:18.89.  Freshman Kelsea Smith finished 10th in the race, touching in 5:20.46.


Sophomore Emily Timm finished second in the prelims of the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:10.91, which surpassed the “B” qualifying standard in the event. 


Four Mavericks scored points in the finals of the 200-yard individual medley, led by Timm who finished third in 2:10.19, which improved her “B” qualifying mark.  Freshman Tabby Temperley finished fourth in 2:10.64, which was also good for a “B” time while sophomore Adrienne Vida finished eighth in 2:13.84 and junior Claire Bergman finished 10th in 2:16.09.


Christensen turned in a time of :24.50 in the 50-yard freestyle which was good for seventh in the prelim races and a “B” qualifying mark in the race. 


Christensen placed the highest for the Mavericks in the finals of the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :24.73, which was good for 10th place.  She was joined by Chapman who Krych who finished 11th in :24.73, Chapman who finished 12th in :25.22 and Ogden, who finished 14th in :25.04.


The 400-yard medley relay team finished third with a time of 3:55.69.  The squad, which was composed of Krych, freshman Alyssa Kuffel, Timm and Hayes was second in the prelims with a time of 3:56.60.


The four-day long event continues Saturday.
