MSU Sits In 3rd After Another Successful Day in the Pool

Omaha, Neb. ---  The Minnesota State women’s swimming and diving team sits in third-place with 685 points after the third day of the 2010 Midwest Conference Championships held in Omaha, Neb.

 

St. Cloud State sits in first with 821 points, while Nebraska-Omaha is second with 785.

 

The Mavericks opened the day by reaching the “A” qualifying standard in the prelims of the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:46.66.  The relay team, which was made up of senior Angela Krych, sophomore Kaitlin Ogden, sophomore Emily Timm and junior Kim Christensen was disqualified in the finals, however their “A” mark in the prelims still stands.

 

Freshman Tabby Temperely finished second with a “B” standard time of 4:40.86 in the 400-yard individual medley.  Junior Heather Schultz was fifth in the race with a time of 4:50.94, while senior Rachel Busch was ninth in 4:53.54 and junior BrieAnna Simon was 10th in 4:57.18. 

 

In the 100-yard butterfly, Timm turned in a fourth-place finish with a “B” standard time of :58.27, while junior Kristin Hayes was fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.62.  Freshman Kelsea Smith and sophomore Stefanie Edwards finished ninth and 10th in the race with times of 1:59.37 and 2:00.77 respectively.

 

Five Mavericks earned points in the 100-yard breaststroke, lead by Schultz’s fourth-place finish of 1:07.41.  Freshman Alyssa Kuffel finished fifth in 1:07.58, while Ogden was sixth in 1:08.32 and junior Chelsea Chapman was seventh in 1:07.41.  Junior Claire Bergman rounded out the Mavericks scoring points with 10th-place finish, touching in 1:08.68. 


Krych reached the “B” standard of the 100-yard backstroke with a time of :58.45, which was second-place in the race while sophomore Adrienne Vida was eighth in 1:01.31. 

 

MSU’s 800-yard freestyle relay team finished third with a time of 7:57.87.  The team was made up of freshman Marissa Reeve, senior Ana Arnold, Edwards and Smith.

 

The four-day long event concludes Saturday.
