Omaha, Neb. – Seventh-ranked Minnesota State got wins from two of its All-Americans but top-ranked and defending national champion Nebraska-Omaha won the other eight matches en route to a 31-6 win Friday night in Omaha. With the non-conference setback, Minnesota State is now 7-4-0 on the season.
Returning All-American Andy Forstner (Madelia, Minn.) got the dual off on the right foot for MSU, securing a takedown with just five seconds remaining to top #2 Terrell McKinney at 125. Forstner entered the match ranked #6 and improves to 16-9 on the season. He also avenged a 6-5 loss to McKinney at the NWCA National Duals.
Nebraska-Omaha then rattled off eight straight wins, including two by fall, to pull away. The dual came to an end with another marquee matchup of ranked opponents at heavyweight. Senior All-American Brady Wilson (Faribault, Minn.) solidified his top billing, besting second-ranked Elijah Madison 3-2. It was Wilson’s third win over Madison this season and improves his season ledger to 23-4 on the season including a spotless 11-0 mark in dual meets.
Minnesota State will again be on the road next weekend, traveling to Aberdeen, S.D., to face Northern State on Friday. Match time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
