Minneapolis, Minn. – The Minnesota State men’s swimming and team closed the 2010 Minnesota Challenge with several strong efforts in the pool.
The 200-yard medley relay squad finished ninth with a time of 1:39.70. That relay team was made up of sophomore Matt Chida, senior Brian Parks, sophomore Daniel Wright and freshman Tom Gasnick.
In the 400-yard medley relay, Gasnick, freshman Keaton Brown, junior Chris Gogel and Parks turned in a sixth-place finish with a time of 3:15.81. Minnesota State turned in a 10th-place finish in the race with a time of 3:19.06. The relay squad was made up of junior John Powers, sophomore Jacob Longacre, Wright and Chida.
Individually, the Mavericks fared well with several top-15 finishes, including: Parks (ninth, 100-yard breaststroke, :59.63), Chida (15th, 100-yard backstroke, :55.34), junior John Powers (11th, 1,650-yard freestyle, 18:14.23), freshman Sam Heidelk (12th, 1,650-yard freestyle, 18:19.59)
The Maverick divers return to action next weekend at the UW-Eau Claire Diving Invitational, while the swimmers will be off until the conference championships Feb. 18-21.
