400-yard Freestyle Relay Takes Home First

Minneapolis, Minn. –  The Minnesota State women’s swimming team closed a successful Minnesota Challenge with three top-10 finishes in the relays.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Mavericks came away with a first-place finish, touching in 3:55.34.  The squad was composed of senior Anna Arnold, junior Heather Schulz, freshman Sarah Iannacone and freshman Alyssa Kuffel.

The “C” relay squad finished third in the race with a time of 4:16.22.  That team was made up of junior Jilliane Preusser, freshman Lauren Finley, junior Amanda Binder and freshman Amber McHugh.

The Mavericks turned in a 14th-place finish in the 200-yard medley with a time of 1:52.65.  The relay team was made up of senior Angela Krych, junior Chelsea Chapman, freshman Tabby Temperley and sophomore Jessy Stanton.

Individually, several Mavericks earned top-15 finishes including:  Temperely (fifth, 400-yard individual medley, 4:47.08), sophomore Emily Timm (15th, 100-yard fly, 1:00.96), Kuffel (10th, 100-yard breaststroke, 1:07.97), Krych (12th, 100-yard backstroke, 1:00.30), Krych (seventh, 100-yard freestyle, :53.93).

The Maverick divers return to action next weekend at the UW-Eau Claire Diving Invitational, while the swimmers will be off until the conference championships Feb. 18-21.
