Mankato, Minn. --- The Mavericks women’s track and field squad hosted the Ted Nelson Classic Saturday, February 6th at Meyers Field House on the campus of Minnesota State University. The Mavericks fared well on the day with five first place finishes and 22 placing in the top-five.
Brita Johnson took first place in the weight throw with a toss of 50’00 ½”. Megan Olson had a great day winning the 60 meter hurdles in :09.12, she also placed third in the long jump at 17’00 ½”. Annie Dahl won the 500 meter run in 1:20.98. Christina Erickson won the triple jump with a jump of 35’5 ¾”.
Mavericks dominated in the pole vault placing four in the top five. First place in went to former Maverick Katelin Rains at 13’11 ¼”. Lauren Stelten placed second place at 12’06” and Whitney Kroschel placed third at 11’10”. Lisa Stocker and Laura Schuneman tied for fourth place at 10’06 ¼”.
In the 4x400-meter relay, Mavericks won in 3:57.83.
Other Mavericks earning top-five finishes in the field events include: Amelia Schaller (third place, weight throw, 48’01 ¼”; fifth place, shot put, 39’06 ½”), Andrea Sellers (fourth place, long jump, 16’11 ¼”), Moriah Miller (fourth place, triple jump, 31’2”), Lisa Eimer (fifth place, triple jump, 31’00 ½”).
Other Mavericks earning top-five finishes in races include: Katie Hopper (second place, 60 meter hurdles, :09.45), Annie Dahl (third place, 60 meter hurdles, :09.52), Andrea Sellers (fourth place, 60 meter hurdles, :09.54), Linnelle Clark (third place, 200-meter, :26.63), Becca Schmidt (second, 400 meter dash, 1:02.38), Briana Jaeger (third, 400 meter dash, 1:04.72), Dayna Sherman (third place, 500 meter run, 1:27.99), Melissa Clark fourth place, 800 meter run, 2:24.12), Jackie Beckett (fourth place, 1000 meter run, 3:16.17), Jenny Hoese (third place, mile run, 5:24.72), Katherine Anundson (fifth place, mile run, 5:32.75), Ali Paul (third place, 3000 meter run, 10:28.85).
The Mavericks will be back in action next weekend, February 12th and 13th at Iowa State.
