Winterhaven, Fla. — Lock Haven (Pa.) scored four runs in the third inning to break a scoreless tie in going on to claim an 8-4 win over 21st-rated Minnesota State in a nonconference collegiate baseball game played in in Winterhaven, Fla., Wednesday.
The Bald Eagles tallied two more runs in the fifth and tacked on two more in the sixth before the Mavericks were able to break through with a four-run ninth inning.
Senior righty Brett Fratzke, the first of five MSU pitchers in the game, went 3.1 innings and gave up four runs, none of which were earned. Fratzke, who stands 0-1 for the year, struck out two batters while walking five. Freshman righthander Brock Lloyd made his collegiate debut in the ninth for the Mavericks and struck out all three batters he faced.
The Mavericks, who had 11 hits in the loss, were led offensively by sophomore Ben Kincaid's two-for-four performance.
Now 9-5 for 2010, the Mavericks continue nonconference action Thursday in a single, nine-inning contest with St. Joseph's (Indiana) in Winterhaven.
