DENVER, COLO. — Minnesota State senior center
Travis Nelson (Marion, Iowa) has been named to the
First-Team All-Central Region squad by Daktronics.
Nelson – a First-Team All-NSIC choice – has played in all 28 games and started 27 of them. He is averaging 16.7 points and six rebounds per game while shooting .582 from the floor and .780 from the line.
For the season, Nelson has turned in seven 20-point games and has two double-doubles. For his career, Nelson has played in 63 games and is averaging 15.2 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per contest. Nelson is a .571 shooter from the floor and .808 shooter from the stripe.
Nelson is now eligible for the national ballot.
Junior wing
Jefferson Mason (Crystal, Minn.) was a
Second-Team All-Region selection. Mason – who was a
First-Team All-NSIC and the
NSIC Defensive Player of the Year – is second on the team in scoring (15.9) and leads MSU in rebounding (8.1).
The Daktronics All-Region teams are voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members.
Minnesota State (22-4) hosts the 2010 NCAA Central Region tournament this weekend. The Mavericks open quarterfinal action Saturday against Colorado School of Mines. Tip is set for 6 p.m.
