Minnesota State takes on #7 St. Cloud State in WCHA play-off action in St. Cloud this weekend

The Mavericks, who enter the first round of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association play-offs with an overall record of 15-18-3 and finished in eighth place in the final league standings with a 9-17-2 WCHA mark, face  seventh-rated St. Cloud State (20-11-5, 15-9-4 WCHA) in league play-off action in a best-of-three series beginning Friday at National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.  St. Cloud State finished in third-place in the league regular-season standings.

Face-off for all games played in St. Cloud this weekend are scheduled for 7:07 p.m. To purchase tickets for this weekend's play-off series at SCSU, please call 1-877-SCSUTIX to order and pay.  Tickets are $12 a game.  

Minnesota State closed out the 2009-10 regular season schedule last weekend with a 4-2 win and a 2-2 tie with St. Cloud State.

The Mavericks lead the all-time series with SCSU by a 58-42-10 margin and have gone 12-7-3 vs. St. Cloud State in its last 22 meetings. This is the first time the two teams have met in WCHA play-off action.

MSU stands 8-22 all-time in WCHA play-off action. Including a 3-18 mark in first-round road play-off games, the Mavericks are 8-20 in first-round WCHA play-off games. MSU has participated the WCHA play-offs 12 times (this year is the 13th) and won two first-round series - vs. Alaska-Anchorage in 1999-2000 and vs. Wisconsin in 2002-03.

MSU's all-time record in 1,364 games played is 709-529-126 (.566).

Minnesota State head coach Troy Jutting (MSU '07) is in his tenth year at the Maverick men's hockey helm and owns an all-time record of 157-180-47.

Senior forward Zach Harrison heads into this weekend's games having tallied 3-1--4 in the last eight games. Harrison, who has played in 131 straight games and leads the Mavericks with a +11, has registered career-highs for assists (16) and points (24) this year. Harrison's 149 career games played places him in a tie for fourth on MSU's all-time list.

Four MSU players have seen action in all 36 games to date: Zach Harrison, Ben Youds, Jerad Stewart and Channing Boe.

Senior forward Kael Mouillierat has registered 6-6--12 in the last 18 games. With 47-41--88 in 141 career games the Edmonton, Alta., native has moved into a tie for tenth on MSU's NCAA Division I-era career scoring leaders list with T.J. Guidarelli, who racked up 28-60--88 in 136 games from 1997-2001.

Senior captain Geoff Irwin has totalled 30-48--78 in 140 career games. The Victoria, B.C., native has 2-8--10 in the last 20 games.

Sophomore forward Michael Dorr has totalled 5-10--15 in 19 games since becoming eligible Dec. 12th after transferring to MSU from the University of Minnesota. Dorr heads into this weekend's games riding a three-game scoring streak (0-4--4).

Junior defenseman Kurt Davis has 5-18--23 on the year and is tied for second on the team a +5. Davis has collected 12-57--69 in 109 career games to tie for tenth on MSU's career scoring list by defensemen. Bryan Lyke, who had 15-54--69 in 126 games from 1991-95 and next on the list, in ninth place, is Scott Jenewein, who totalled 8-72--80 in 86 contests from 1983-87.

Junior defenseman Ben Youds has had 26 shots on goal in the last ten games. Youds, who is tied for third on the team scoring charts with 2-21--23, has achieved career-highs for assists and points this season.

Junior forward Rylan Galiardi, who has 7-7--14 in his last 15 games played, has chalked up 22-39--61 in 105 career games. Galiardi scored twice and assisted on another in helping lead the Mavericks to the 4-2 win over fourth-rated St. Cloud State last Friday and then added a goal in Saturday's 2-2 tie.

The Mavericks, who have won four of their last nine games, are 6-10 in one-goal games for 2009-10.

Freshman forward Tyler Pitlick, who assisted on a Rylan Galiardipower play goal in the 4-2 win over #4 St. Cloud State last Friday, has racked up 3-5--8 in the last 11 games. Pitlick leads MSU's newcomers in scoring with 10-8--18 in 35 GP. His 8-6--14 in 27 league games ranks ties for seventh amongst all WCHA freshmen.

Freshman forward Eriah Hayes has 2-2--4 in the last six games. The LaCresent, Minn., native has collected 8-5--13 in his debut season with the Mavericks.

Freshman defenseman Evan Mosey registered his first career goal in MSU's 2-2 overtime tie at #4 St. Cloud State last Saturday. Mosey has 1-3--4 in 18 games during the course of his debut season with the Mavericks.

Freshman netminder Phil Cook who owns a 7-4-2 mark in his maiden season as a Maverick, stopped 51 of 55 shots in the two games vs. St. Cloud State last weekend for a .927 saves percentage and a 1.92 goals against average.

The Mavericks, who drew 73,717 fans in 19 home games at Verizon Wireless Center in 2009-10, averaged 3,880 fans per home contest this year, which ranks third on the all-time list.
