Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State men's basketball coach
Matt Margenthaler has announced that A.J. Wilson has announced his intentions to transfer to Minnesota State and join the Maverick basketball team in the fall of 2010.
Wilson – a St. Paul, Minn., native and a St. Bernard's graduate – spent last season at Murray State. Prior to his arrival at Murray State, Wilson played at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo.
Last season, Wilson played in 21 games for the Racers and averaged 1.7 points per game and 1.3 rebounds per contest. He connected on 75 percent of his field goal opportunities last year. At Northeastern, Wilson averaged 16 points per game and 7.2 rebounds as a sophomore. He also shot 63 percent from the floor and had nine 30-plus point games in 2008-09. While at St. Bernard's, Wilson was a Mr. Basketball finalist.
"AJ will be one of the most versatile players on our roster next year," said Margenthaler. "His ability to play several positions will be a benefit for our program right away. We look for great things out of him next year."
The Mavericks finished the 2009-10 season with a 25-5 record.
