Minneapolis, Minn. --- The fifth-seeded Minnesota State women’s tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over fourth-seeded Upper Iowa, Saturday morning in the quarterfinals of the 2010 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships played at the Baseline Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
The Mavericks (12-11) now advance to Sunday morning’s 8 a.m., semifinal against top-seeded Augustana (19-0).
The Mavericks opened play with a sweep of the doubles matches. Junior Heather Jensen and senior Paige Burke earned a 8-2 win at the #2 doubles spot to start the scoring, while sophomore Tegan Bakke and senior Cassandra Anderson won 8-4 at the #3 spot. Junior Sarah Madigan and freshman Kathryn Gavin closed doubles play with a 9-7 win at the top-flight.
In singles play, Jensen earned a 6-2, 6-2, victory at the #5 flight and Anderson earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the #6 flight to close out the match for Minnesota State.
