Robinson Takes First in Discus and Hammer Throw

St. Peter, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men’s track and field squad took part in the Gustie Invite Saturday in St. Peter, Minn. and earned  seven first-place finishes and 11 other top-five finishes.

Freshman Nick Nelson took first in the 100-meter dash (10.78), while also finishing second in the 200 (22.11). Freshman Austin Eliason grabbed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.91.
Other notable track event finishes included senior Sam Lance taking second in the 400-meter run (50.32), junior Adam Endres grabbing fourth in the 400 (51.22, senior Denise Mokaya taking fifth in the 800-meter run (2:05.05) and freshman Jacob Bastyr taking third in the 1500-meter run (4:12.21).

In field events, junior Adedayo Ologunde took first in the high jump with a jump of 1.93 meters, while Jack Reisner took second in the event with a height of 1.93 meters. The Mavericks took the top three spots in the pole vault with sophomore Dan Novak grabbing first (4.97 meters), sophomore Matt Masloski taking second (4.82 meters) and junior Nick Yenser earning third (4.67 meters). Junior Todd DeJong took first in the shot put (16.51 meters) and third in the hammer throw (45.95 meters). Senior Michael Robinson took first in the discus with a toss of 49.32 meters, also finishing first in the hammer throw with a distance of 48.78 meters. Freshman Grant Luer took second in the discus (48.01 meters) and fourth in the shot put (14.98 meters).

The Minnesota State track and field team will participate in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference competition Friday and Saturday in Moorhead, Minn.
