Minnesota State has announced a trio of additional recruits for the 2010-11 season

Mavericks Announce Three Additional Recruits For 2010-11

         Mankato, Minn. --- Men’s hockey coach Troy Jutting has announced that three student-athletes have signed NCAA Letters of Intent to attend Minnesota State University.

 

Committing to MSU are forwards J.P. Burkemper  (St. Louis, Mo./Fargo (USHL)) and John McInnis (Boston, Mass./Okotoks (AJHL)), along with defenseman Josh Nelson (Wisconsin Rapids, Minn./Fairbanks (NAHL)).

 

The three commitments gives the Mavericks a total of eight signees heading into 2010-11 with Burkemper, McInnis and Nelson joining defenseman Danny Heath and forwards Chase Grant, Matt Leitner, Zach Lehrke and Corey Leivermann as MSU recruits.

J.P. Burkemper, Forward, 6-3, 190, Shoots Left, St. Louis, Mo./Fargo(USHL)

A two-year veteran of the United States Hockey League....Played one and a half seasons in Des Moines (2008-09 and part of 2009-10 before getting traded to Fargo)...Appeared in 55 games and had 6 goals, 16 assists and 22 points in 2008-09...Had 2-3--5 in 17 games with the Bucs in 2009-10 before heading to Fargo where he had 3-8--11 in 25 regular-season games in 2009-10.

 

John McInnis, Forward, 6-2, 203, Shoots right, Boston, Mass./Okotoks (AJHL)

Spent two seasons with Okotoks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League...Named 2009-10 Most Valuable Player for the Oilers after establishing franchise mark for goals in a season with 42....Ranked 12th in scoring in the AJHL with 42-31--73 and was fourth in goals...Played in 58 games and led Okotoks with 11 power play goals...Totalled 25-30--55 in first year with the Oilers in 2008-09.

 

Josh Nelson, Defense, 6-0, 195, Shoots right, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Fairbanks (NAHL)

A three-year veteran of the North American Hockey League...Had 7-25--32 in 54 games with Fairbanks in 2009-10 in help leading the Ice Dogs to a spot in the NAHL National Tournament...Named to 2009-10 Sherwood/NAHL Top Prospects Tournament...Had 6-23--29 in 54 games with Bismarck and Fairbanks in 2008-09...Totalled 1-2--3 in 23 games as a rookie with Marquette in 2007-08.
