Mankato, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics hosted the 24th Maverick Achievement Awards and Senior Honors Dinner Sunday, and senior wrestler Brady Wilson (Faribault, Minn.) was awarded the Minnesota State Athletics Male Athletics Medal of Honor and Don Buchanan Award, respectively. The event was held in the Centennial Student Union Ballroom.
The Male Athletics Medal of Honor is presented annually to one student-athlete and is based solely on athletic achievements. The award has been presented since 1992-93. The Don Buchanan Award (or Outstanding Male Student-Athlete Award) is presented annually to the student-athlete who best combines academic and athletic achievements. The award as been presented since 1996-97.
Wilson, a graduate student majoring in sports management with a cumulative grade point average of 3.66, is one of eight four-time NCAA II All-Americans in the history MSU Wrestling. MSU’s only four-time Super Region champion, Wilson was a four-time conference champion, he owns the school record for most career wins with 143 victories. A co-captain as a senior, he helped lead MSU to four top four National Dual Meet Championship finishes, two conference team titles, three Region Team Championships and three top-four finishes at the NCAA tournament. A two-time NWCA All-Academic pick and a three-year member of the MSU Student Athletic Advisory Committee, he represented MSU at the NCAA YES Clinic in Houston, Texas and was the 2009 and 2010 MSU Wrestling Coaches Award Winner. He graduated in four years with a major in Business Management and is enrolled in Master’s of Sport Management program.
Nominations and selection for both awards was based on votes cast by Minnesota State head coaches, staff and selected members of the media.
