Mankato, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics hosted the 24th Annual Maverick Achievement Awards and Senior Honors Dinner Sunday, and senior
Brittany Henderson (Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Liz Trauger (Livermore, Iowa) were awarded the
Minnesota State Female Athletics Medal of Honor and
Georgene Brock Award, respectively. The event was held in the Centennial Student Union Ballroom.
The
Female Athletics Medal of Honor is presented annually to one student-athlete and is based solely on athletic achievements. The award has been presented since 1994-95.An 11-time NCAA All-American sprinter, Henderson is a four-time conference indoor track and field champion and a four-time conference outdoor track and field champion. She is the owner of three school outdoor track and field school records (100m, 200m, 4x100m) and three indoor track and field records (60m, 200m, 4x400m). A 2010 team captain, Henderson is a two-time Academic All-NSIC Winter Indoor Track and Field award winner and a 2009 Academic All-NSIC Spring Outdoor Track and field recipient.
The
Georgene Brock Award (or Outstanding Female Student-Athlete Award) is presented annually to the student-athlete who best combines academic and athletic achievements. The award as been presented since 1978-79. Trauger owns a 3.93 grade point average and is majoring in Accounting and Corporate Finance. She led the Mavericks in scoring as a senior with and was second in rebounds. A three-time Academic All-Conference pick and named a 2010 Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award recipient, she was a member of MSU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and she earned ESPN the Magazine All-Academic District V Second Team honors. Trauger was a Maverick Achievement Award recipient as a senior scholar-athlete and as a junior she helped lead the Mavericks to a NCAA Division II title.
Nominations and selection for both awards was based on votes cast by Minnesota State head coaches, staff and selected members of the media.
