CARY, N.C. --- Minnesota State sophomore right-handed pitcher Blake Schwartz has earned Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association 2010 Third-Team All-American honors.
Schwartz, a native of Rosemount, Minn.,was previously named NSIC Pitcher of the Year and Region Pitcher of the Year by Daktronics, Rawlings ABCA and the NCBWA earlier this month and boasts 10-2 record on the year with a 3.79 earned run average and has 64 strike outs in 90.1 innings.
With the honor, Schwartz becomes the seventh Maverick in the history of the baseball program to earn All-American honors. Others who have been honored inculde designated hitter Dick Grass in 1975 (First-Team), pitcher Wes Weber (Second-Team), catcher Fritz Polka (Third-Team) in 1986, outfielder Mike Skowronek in 1989 (Second-Team), pitcher Nick Fellman in 2006 (Second-Team) and pitcher Jon Bjelland in 2007 (First-Team).
The Mavericks, who stand 44-15 for the year, will face the Franklin Pierce Ravens, Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. (EST) in an elimination game.
