Mankato, Minn. — The Minnesota State men’s hockey team has named the recipients of its team awards for the 2009-10 season.
The award winners are listed below.
Most Valuable Player - Kael Mouillierat (Sr., Forward, Edmonton, Alta.) — Senior forward
Kael Mouillierat, who signed with Idaho of the East Coast Hockey League following the completion of MSU’s season, registered 10-8—18 in the last 22 games of the season to pull into a tie for second on MSU’s final scoring charts with 13-12--25. With 49-43—92 in 144 career games the Edmonton, Alta., native finished his career ranking tenth on MSU’s NCAA Division I-era career scoring leaders list. Mouillierat had nine game-winning goals in four-year MSU career to tie for seventh on MSU’s all-time list.
Unsung Hero Award - Ben Youds (Jr., Defense, Maple Grove, Minn.) — Junior defenseman
Ben Youds, who led the Mavericks in scoring and assists in 2009-10 with 3-23--26, achieved career-highs for goals, assists and points. Youds becomes the fifth defenseman to lead MSU in scoring, joining
John McNamara (1970-71),
Dave Saatzer (1977-78),
Terry Hughes (1989-90) and
Kurt Davis (2008-09). The Maple Grove, Minn., blueliner had three assists in a game three times during the course of the year.
Most Improved Player Award - Evan Mosey (Fr., Defense, Downer’s Grove, Ill.) — Freshman defenseman
Evan Mosey registered his first career goal in MSU’s 2-2 overtime tie at #4 St. Cloud State March 6. He added a goal in MSU’s 5-4 overtime victory over #7 St. Cloud State March 12th in the first game of the WCHA play-offs. Mosey contributed 2-3—5 in 20 games during the course of his debut season with the Mavericks.
Mr. Hustle Award (Hardest Worker) - Jerad Stewart (Sr., Forward, Hastings, Minn.) — Senior forward
Jerad Stewart collected career-highs for goals (13), assists (12) and points (25) in his last year as a Maverick. One of four players who played in all 39 games during the course of the season, Stewart tied for second on the Mavericks in scoring (13-12--25), owned a share of the team goal-scoring lead (13) and tied for the team lead in power play goals (5) and ranked second in game-winning goals (3). His 95 shots also ranked second.
BW3 Star of the Year Award (most Three Star of the Game selections during MSU home games) -
Rylan Galiardi (Jr., Forward, Calgary, Alta.) — Junior forward
Rylan Galiardi, who had 7-9—16 in his last 19 games played in 2009-10, has chalked up 22-40—62 in 108 career games with the Mavericks. Galiardi, who tied for second on the team scoring list in 2009-10 with 11-14--25, finished his junior season ranking tied for third on the team in goals, tied for first with five power play tallies and tied for third with one shorthanded goal.
MSU finished the 2008-09 campaign with a 16-20-3 overall record and completed the Western Collegiate Hockey Association regular season with a 9-17-12 mark.
