What's Happened: The Minnesota State softball season concluded the 2010 season with a 36-15 record and made its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Region Tournament.
About the Sub-Regional Tournament: The Mavericks went 2-2 at the NCAA Regional Tournament held last month in Colorado Springs, Colo. Minnesota State opened with a 12-3 win over Winona State before falling to Metro State, 7-1. In an elimination game, the Mavericks downed Winona State 7-6, before falling to Metro State 6-0 in the subregional championship game.
Minnesota State hit .302 for the tournament blasting 12 home runs. The 12 home runs marked the only extra-base hits by the Mavericks during the event. Junior third baseman
Julie O'Neal led MSU with a .583 average in the tournament hitting three home runs and driving in seven runs while scoring five of her own. O'Neal and sophomore outfielder
Amanda Umhoefer each hit three home runs to pace MSU. On the mound, both redshirt freshman
Courtney McKelvogue and sophomore
Kendra Huettl boasted 1-1 records, with McKelvogue boasting a 1.54 ERA and recorded a team-high 13 strikeouts.
Minnesota State History: The 2010 season is the 37th for Maverick softball. MSU owns an all-time record of 943-648-7(.590) in 1,604 games, and won four titles (1984, 1987, 1989, 2007) during their time in the North Central Conference and nine appearances in the NCAA Division II National Tournament (1984, 1987, 1989, 1995, 1997, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010) to its credit.
