Getting to Know... Austin Lee

Senior goaltender Austin Lee , who redshirted as a freshman with the Mavericks in 2007-08, in his fifth season with the Minnesota State men's hockey program.  The Bloomington native ended the 2010-11 year with a record of 4-5-2, a GAA of 2.59 and a .911 save percentage.  Lee is a three-time WCHA Scholar Athlete and a three-time WCHA All-Academic selection.

Named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week after he posted a shut-out in a season-opening win at #18 RPI to start this year, Lee has started eight of MSU's ten games in 2011-12.

"Austin brings so many things to the team," said MSU head coach Troy Jutting. "He is an extremely bright guy. He is also calming and laid back and his teammates love him and loves that he works extremely hard."

What is the best part of being an MSU hockey player?
AL: Being a part of the hockey family and the positive impact on the community.

Who is your favorite team to play?
AL: Gophers or Badgers.

Why did you choose to play for MSU?
AL: The coaches are great; the school had my majors and the combination of the academics and athletics.

What is the best part about being a goaltender?
AL: The adrenaline of a big save and the end of a game.

Who is your favorite NHL hockey team?
AL:  The Minnesota Wild.

What are some of your other hobbies?
AL: Politics, chess, cello and golf.

What do you plan on doing after college?
AL: Hopefully persuing hockey as far as I can, then law school.
