St. Peter, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women’s tennis team split a pair of matches Saturday at the Swanson Tennis Center on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College against the University of Sioux Falls and South Dakota.
The Mavericks opened the day with a 9-0 win over the University of Sioux Falls. Junior Kathryn Gavin and freshman Shealyn Bakke opened doubles with an 9-1 win before freshman Joey Bosch and junior Brandi Dohmen won 8-6 at the #2 flight. Freshman Laura May and junior Hailey Robb earned a win by default at the #3 flight.
In singles action, Dohmen opened with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the #2 flight while Gavin won 6-1, 6-1 at the #1 flight. May picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at the #5 flight before Boesch won 6-1, 6-2 at the third flight. Bakke won 6-3, 6-0 at the #5 flight and Robb won default at the #6 flight.
Against the Coyotes, MSU suffered a 7-0 loss.
The Mavericks (2-1) return to action tomorrow morning as they face Minnesota Duluth at 9 a.m., in their 2012 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener.
